Destination: Colorado Springs

Total tours listed from this location: 2

1 Tour Name: Airforce Academy Tour
Motorcoach Tour    Departure Location: Colorado Springs

We highly recommend this relaxed tour to the 18,000 acre Air Force Academy, as you will see and enjoy more in less time than if you visited these sites on your own.

After we pass through the North Gate, you will view the B-52 Bomber, Diamond Lil, followed by a lovely scenic drive up North Gate Road. While cadets purposefully go about their business, youll stop at the Athletic Field House and the $3.8 million Visitors Center. Funded entirely by donations, this center uses the latest technology to educate and entertain guests.

The next stop, the Garden of the Gods, is one of the most photographed natural wonders in the United States and rightfully so! This 1,350 acre park at the foot of Pikes Peak features fantastically shaped sandstone formations that jut from the earth at crazy angles, the product of cataclysmic forces when the earth was young. Most of the formations have whimsical names that describe their appearance we will stop at several, including \"Balanced Rock\", which seems to defy gravity, and \"Kissing Camels.\"

*In the event of heightened national security conditions, the Air Force Academy tour may be replaced with a visit to the US Olympic Training Center.

2 Tour Name: Pikes Peak Highway Tour
Motorcoach Tour    Departure Location: Colorado Springs

If you can only choose one tour in the Colorado Springs area, the Pikes Peak tour is the one to take! This spectacular 14,110 foot peak offers visitors \"a purple mountains majesty,\" for it was because of this magnificent mountain that Katherine Lee Bates wrote \"America the Beautiful\". This tour's route travels up historic Ute Pass through the village of Cascade to the well-maintained Pikes Peak Highway. As the road climbs higher, each new curve offers yet another spectacular mountain vista and youll see mountains, dense forests and tundra, a fragile and desolate ecosystem in which one footstep off the path can take years for Mother Nature to repair.

At the summit you'll feel like you're on top of the world, and the views stretch for miles. To the south, the often-snowcapped Sangre de Cristo Mountain Range and the Gold Rush town of Cripple Creek seem close enough to touch. To the west lies the Continental Divide eastward \"amber waves of grain\" roll on farther than you can see, while the north shows the distant skyline of Denver and beyond that, the peaks of Rocky Mountain National Park.

During the 60-mile round trip tour, we will take several rest stops so you can slowly acclimate to altitude changes, stretch your legs and take pictures. Be sure to bring a jacket - you'll need it at the summit!

Tour includes the Pikes Peak Highway toll charge.
